Assistive Technology for Reading

Seventy-four percent of children who are poor readers in the 3rd grade remain poor readers by the 9th grade.  They are four-times less likely to graduate than proficient readers.  Two-thirds of secondary students with learning disabilities are reading three or more grades levels behind. Twenty percent are reading five or more grade levels behind. Technology can help bridge the gap. Research tells us that the use of text to speech improves reading comprehension for most (both factual and inferential) and increases vocabulary knowledge and reading speed while reducing fatigue.  Learn about TTS (text to speech), OCR (optical character recognition), and the tools needed to access all text everywhere.
